Don’t Hit the Road Without Checking These Off
Whether you’re heading to the beach, the mountains, or grandma’s house this summer, your Internet-connected home still needs some attention. Use this checklist before you pack your bags:
At Home
Check your router – Make sure it’s secure and updated. Consider rebooting before you leave to avoid mid-trip connectivity issues.
Set smart devices to vacation mode – Adjust thermostats, lights, and security systems for away settings.
Enable notifications – Make sure your home security and smart systems will alert you to any motion or unusual activity while you're gone.
Unplug unnecessary electronics – Save power and protect from surges during storms.
On the Go
Download entertainment ahead of time – Grab movies, playlists, and books before you leave to avoid using mobile data.
Secure public Wi-Fi use – Avoid accessing sensitive accounts when using hotel or airport Wi-Fi. Use a VPN if possible.
Use mobile hotspot if needed – Traveling somewhere without reliable Wi-Fi? A mobile hotspot (or hotspot feature on your phone) can be a lifesaver.
Your vacation should be relaxing—not filled with tech hiccups. With a little prep, your broadband can work for you, even when you’re miles from home.
